Power Bank Use Banned on Emirates Flights from October – New Rules for Travelers
From October 1, 2025, an important change has come into effect on Emirates flights: while one power bank can still be brought on board, passengers cannot use the device during flight. The restriction was introduced due to lithium battery fire incidents.
⚠️ Why was the ban introduced?
In recent years, the number of onboard incidents caused by power banks has increased worldwide.
The danger of lithium-ion batteries:
- damage
- overheating
- faulty charging
can easily lead to "thermal runaway," causing rapid temperature rise, fire, or even explosion.
The airline has tightened rules preventively to increase flight safety.
📋 Emirates' New Power Bank Rules
Passengers may bring a maximum of 1 power bank, up to 100 Wh.
But on board:
- ❌ Use is prohibited, meaning you cannot charge devices with it
- ❌ Charging it from onboard power sources is prohibited
- ❌ It cannot be placed in overhead compartments
Also important:
- 📦 Power banks are prohibited in checked luggage (this was already in effect)
- 🏷️ The capacity must be clearly visible on the device
- 🎒 It can only be kept in the seat pocket or bag under the seat in front
The goal is for crew to have immediate access to the device in case of any problem.
💺 What remains available on board?
Passengers can still use:
- built-in power outlets in seats
- and onboard USB ports
So charging options are still available – just not with external batteries.
📝 Summary
Emirates' new regulation:
- does not ban bringing power banks on board
- but strictly prohibits their use for safety reasons
This measure serves to protect passengers, as fires caused by lithium-ion battery failures are particularly dangerous in aviation.
